Wyland is an artist known for his marine-life sculptures and murals on buildings showcased worldwide. Did you know that an estimated one billion people see his whaling walls annually? If you’re still unaware of the Wyland artist, perhaps you know who he is without realizing it. The Wyland Foundation website showcases some of the murals Wyland has created throughout many different cities.

Wyland landed himself in the Guinness Book of World Records for painting the largest mural, which covered over three acres. In recognition of Earth Day, he took on an even larger mural. One that doubled in size, he created a portrait of the earth on a three-acre roof in only 24 hours.

Renowned marine life Wyland artistchanged the way people think about our environment when he started painting life-size whales on the sides of buildings in the 1980s. Wyland always thought big. And he never stopped. Today, the Wyland name has become synonymous with the new generation of awareness about environmental conservation. Through his unique marine life paintings, sculptures, and photography, Wyland continues to inspire new generations about the importance of marine life conservation.

Wyland’s projects have always been about art and conservation. His goal is to bring attention to the environmental issues we face today. Wyland plans to create 100 different art projects in 100 well-known cities worldwide. These projects will include the great whale species and endangered and threatened animals. 


When Wyland first knew he would be a marine artist, he was fourteen. A family trip to Laguna Beach, California and seeing a mother whale and her baby migrating near the shore. 


Wyland art owners are throughout all fifty states and over one hundred countries. Wyland’s art can be found at many of artist Wyland Galleries

Today, Wyland continues to focus on the Wyland Foundation, which is a non-profit organization he began in 1993. This organization aims to educate and inspire people about the importance of clean water and a healthy planet.
